This is where I am placing links to all of my posts on my impressions on the 2008-2009 interview trail for Obstetrics & Gynecology. I know that there are several other sites out there that require you to become a member to either post or to read commentary, which can be a headache and is not anonymous. I thought this would be a nice alternative to share my thoughts and people who also interviewed can leave their thoughts under the comments section. I’m going to use the format from the studentdoctor.net forums that was used before it was shut down for anonymous posting mid-interview season last year.
If there is a program where I did not (or do not plan to) interview, but someone would like to post you can do so under the “Other Programs” link, or just email me at medobsession@yahoo.com and I can post it for you. Good luck on the interview trail!!
So far I’ve posted my personal thoughts on all of the programs!
Update: Initial program reviews for Brown, George Washington, NYU, UNC, Univ. of Pittsburgh and UVA – all submitted by blog reader “PD.” PD also added reviews to Duke, Emory, Northwestern, and UCSF.

Hi!,
I appreciate your website, it has been very helpful to me as a 3rd year trying not to get overwhelmed. I do have a question, The night floats at some of the programs you went to UCLA and Kaiser LA, are they the same or similar to shift hours at UTsouthwestern ( i.e 5-7 shift and 7pm-5am shifts?)
Thanks !
@rob: Thanks!
@Jessica: I’m happy that you have found the site useful. 3rd year and 4th year can definitely becoming overwhelming if you don’t have all the info you need! Now for your question: Most of the programs with night float had shift hours similar to UT Southwestern, with the night shift ranging anywhere from 12-14 hours starting at 6 or 7pm, in 2-6 week intervals.
Kaiser LA was unique in that they “split” the night. The team takes call every 4th night, but at around 11pm the team splits the number of ours left until am rounds. So if rounds are at 7am, there are 8 hours to be split. The intern will work the first 4 hour hours of the night until 3am, at which point the chief will awake and work the remaining 4 hours of the night.
