CREOGs 2010

It’s that time of year… CREOGs!  For those of you that I have no idea what I’m talking about, CREOG is the Council of Resident Education in Obstetrics & Gynecology. Each year this organization creates a standardized test for all Ob/Gyn residents to take on the same weekend.  The exam has about 330 questions to be completed in a 5 hour period.  The exam not only has questions on general Ob/Gyn and all of the sub-specialties (REI, MFM, Onc, Urogyn), but primary care, orthopedics, and a surprising amount of psych!

The CREOGs for 2010 were this past week, as you may have gathered from my Twitter messages.  I’m still shocked that I made it through the exam.  I was post-call (luck me!) and on one of the time-intensive rotations in our program.  Between being post-call, and sleep-deprived from the rotation, I definitely didn’t have the highest expectations for myself.  The first half of the exam seemed pretty reasonable.  I felt like I knew quite a few of the answers, or at least felt that I could make an educated guess.  Now for the second half… that was a completely different story.  I don’t know if my lack of sleep finally caught up to me or if it was just too detailed.

Now the beauty of this exam is that I am an INTERN!  Pretty much, my hope is that I’m at or above the national average.  I don’t expect anything more because this exact same test is taken by the 4th year residents as well.  The expectation is that I do improve each year.  I figure I’ll start out with a nice baseline of what I know, considering I really didn’t study.  Next paycheck I will definitely invest in more books, and Prologs, to study from during 2nd year.  Anyhow, I know that with my Step scores I posted them on my blog… not sure I’ll be doing the same for CREOGs!  Once again a few people who read this know me personally, so there may be a delayed reveal.
