As a fourth year student we are allowed to do up to 3 away rotations. Several advisers have told me that since I did well on the boards and have good evals that doing away rotations is not crucial for me. In fact, doing an away rotation could hurt me if I don’t seem as good as I do on paper. However, I wanted to do at least one away rotation in order to get an idea of what a particular program was like. I figure doing 4 weeks should be sufficient time for me to decide whether I would want to be there for 4 years of residency. In addition, this will be my chance to show them that I am as good as I look on paper so that they will want to interview me!
I applied for an away rotation at Emory School of Medicine back in March, and I finally heard back from them this weekend! Looks like I’ll be going away for 4 weeks:

Too bad I have to dish out $110 for the rotation! At least my little sister lives in the city though so I don’t have to worry about rent or transportation. I can’t wait to check out the program!

I feel like the “little” before sister can be omitted. But you def won’t have to worry about rent… I don’t see the same for when you drive my car tho : ) see ya in september!!
Rob… you will always be my little sis! Embrace it
As for the post, I said “transportation” won’t be a problem which includes MARTA, bus, etc. in addition to your car. Chill!
I really hate that some programs charge you for coming to do a visiting clerkship. It’s nothing more than taking advantage of students because you are going there basically as free medical labor. Then they wanna go and charge you for coming to work for them just cos they know they can.
