Just sharing with the world my experiences on my journey to obtaining the MD and beyond.

What’s the point December 3, 2006

Filed under: In the Classroom — medobsession @ 1:31 pm

You would think that after being in medical school for a year and a half now that I would have figured out the key to studying.  Apparently not.  It seems as though no matter how much you attend lectures, read the notes, and read the text there is always some question(s) that will throw you for a loop.  Sometimes the questions are so detailed I feel like I need to know every single fact, but other times I just get caught up on thinking about what the question is really asking.  I guess I’m lucky cause these weekly quizzes we take don’t count toward our grade, but it’s still frustrating when I totally revamped my study strategy this week and still managed to only get a 15/20.  I mean, I guess that is some improvement; I won’t even tell what I got on the first 2!  (I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so I really only like to get A’s).  I know everyone has their own standards that they create for themselves and that is below mine, so please don’t tell me not to complain.  Anyways, practice makes perfect and I still have a few, okay alot, of weeks until the final.  Hopefully the trend will continue to be upward.

LOL…..I can understand your struggle. It’s perfectly natural (especially for someone as academically in tune as yourself) to aim for the highest score possible on exams.

But remember what you are working towards. You’re not in school so you can graduate and take tests…..you’re in training to become a physician. And at the end of the day, will your future patients be concerned with the fact that you got an 89 on a Cardio exam, or will they be concerned with whether or not you can adequately assess, diagnose and treat the cause of their hypertension?

    Just food for thought homie….:)
